KABUL (Pajhwok): The Embassy of Afghanistan in Iran has announced that, in the second phase of the eleventh round of the prisoner transfer committee, 165 Afghan prisoners were transferred from Iran to Afghanistan after completing legal procedures.
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Iran said on its X account that, as part of the same process, one female Iranian national was also transferred from Afghanistan to Iran.
According to the source, among the transferred Afghan prisoners, eight men and one woman had previously been sentenced to death by Iranian courts.
The source added that, following efforts by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Afghan embassy in Tehran, these individuals were granted clemency from the death penalty and their sentences were commuted to long-term imprisonment.
