PARAKH (Pajhwok): The use of smartphones has been banned in local government offices in central Panjshir province, the provincial media office said on Saturday.

In a statement, the media office said the decision was made in line with a “verbal directive” from the leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The provincial administration said there would be no negligence in implementing the directives, orders and decrees issued by the leadership.

According to the statement, Panjshir Governor Alhaj Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim instructed both civilian and military officials in the province to prevent government employees from using smartphones inside local administrative offices.

It added that any employee found violating the directive would face legal action in accordance with relevant regulations.

The statement said the use of smartphones by civilian and military personnel in local government institutions had already been prohibited, with implementation of the ban being monitored.

It further noted that computers are being used for official correspondence and the provision of administrative services.
