KABUL (Pajhwok): A 20-member delegation of Indian traders and investors will visit Afghanistan soon to explore investment opportunities, the president of India’s PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) said its Director General Syed Karim Hashimi met the PHDCCI president and members during an official visit to India.

The meeting, held in New Delhi under the theme “Business Opportunities between Afghanistan and India,” focused on expanding trade ties, boosting joint investment and exploring economic opportunities between the two countries.

Hashimi said Afghanistan and India share longstanding historical, cultural and friendly relations that can serve as a foundation for stronger economic cooperation.

He said trade goes beyond the exchange of goods and can contribute to job creation, economic growth, public welfare and stronger relations between nations.

Hashimi highlighted Afghanistan’s potential in agriculture, mining, carpets, handicrafts, dried fruits, saffron, precious stones, marble and other sectors, while noting India’s strengths in industry, technology, pharmaceuticals, machinery and manufacturing.

He stressed that economic cooperation should expand beyond imports and exports to include joint ventures, technology transfer, workforce development and industrial collaboration.

According to the statement, Hashimi invited Indian business representatives to visit Afghanistan to explore the country’s economic and commercial potential.

Afghan Ambassador to India Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor also highlighted the importance of expanding economic cooperation and said the embassy would continue facilitating links between business communities.

PHDCCI President Santosh Joshi welcomed the Afghan delegation and said the chamber was ready to cooperate in areas including pharmaceuticals, logistics, cargo services, industrial production and investment.

He announced that a 20-member delegation of Indian traders and investors would visit Afghanistan in the near future to explore investment opportunities.

Both sides stressed the importance of continued dialogue, stronger private-sector ties and expanded economic cooperation.
