KABUL (Pajhwok): Simultaneously with the release of 344 Afghan migrants from prisons in Pakistan, the Prison Administration has also announced the transfer of 164 Afghan inmates, including three women, from Iran to Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) said on Thursday that during the current week, 344 Afghan migrants—families and single individuals—who had been detained in Pakistani prisons for varying periods due to residence document issues were released and returned to the country.

According to the ministry, of those released, 232 entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar province, while the remaining 112 returned via the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province.

The ministry added that these individuals were provided with humanitarian assistance and subsequently transferred to their home regions.

It further stated that the ministry remains committed to ensuring appropriate conditions and providing necessary services and support to returnees.

Meanwhile, the Prison Administration announced that on Wednesday, 164 Afghan citizens serving prison sentences, including three women, were transferred from Iran to Afghanistan.

According to the administration, these prisoners entered the country voluntarily through the Pul-i-Abrisham crossing in Nimroz province.

Mawlawi Mohammad Yusuf Masehri, head of the Prison Administration, instructed relevant officials to pay closer attention to the situation of the transferred prisoners from Iran.

The Prison Administration did not provide further details regarding the length of sentences, charges, or case types of the individuals.
