HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Three individuals have been arrested on charges of killing a taxi driver and stealing his car in western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Dr. Sayed Masoud Hosseini said in a statement that the suspects, about a week earlier, lured the victim—who was a taxi driver—to the Gardeh Park area in the 4th Police District of Herat city.
They then drugged him with yoghurt mixed with sleeping pills, rendering him unconscious. The suspects subsequently stole his vehicle and other belongings, killed him, and secretly buried his body in the same area.
He added that security forces, after launching investigations, identified the burial site. One suspect was initially arrested in Herat city on Friday, while the other two were detained while attempting to flee the country via Nimroz province in coordination with security forces and were later transferred to Herat for further investigation.
According to Hosseini, the suspects confessed during interrogation to carrying out the murder and said their main motive was to steal the victim’s vehicle and belongings.
He added that after completion of legal procedures, the case will be referred to judicial authorities.
