KABUL (Pajhwok): The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has risen to 1,502, according to official figures.
Reuters reported that government data released on Friday showed 473 people have died from the disease.
The confirmed cases have been reported in the eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu, where health authorities continue efforts to contain the outbreak and prevent further transmission.
Doctors describe Ebola as a severe and often fatal viral disease that spreads through direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or other secretions of an infected person, as well as through contaminated objects.
The illness typically begins with the sudden onset of fever, headache, muscle pain, severe weakness, and sore throat, followed by vomiting and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can lead to internal and external bleeding.
Health experts have urged the public to take preventive measures, including washing hands regularly, avoiding contact with infected individuals and their bodily fluids, using appropriate protective equipment when caring for patients, observing safe burial practices and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms consistent with Ebola develop.
