KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 82,000 returnee children have been enrolled in schools after taking educational placement tests since the start of the 1404 academic year, an official said on Monday.
Mawlavi Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, wrote on X that the Education and Mosques Committee, one of the 12 committees under the High Commission for Addressing Returnees’ Problems, was giving special attention to the education of returnee children to ensure none were deprived of schooling due to migration.
He said a special procedure had been introduced under which returnee children are registered by the committee and formally referred to the Ministry of Education through the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation.
According to Fitrat, educational placement tests are conducted in Kabul and the provinces before children are enrolled in public schools and other educational institutions according to their academic level.
He said 82,832 returnee children across the country had taken the placement tests and had subsequently been referred to schools since the start of the 1404 academic year.
Fitrat added that the process was continuing, with newly returned children being integrated into the education system every day.
He said students who had lost their academic documents during migration would still be able to continue their education after re-registering through the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation and undergoing an educational assessment.
He added that the Education and Mosques Committee was working to ensure returnee students received the same educational services as other students. Where needed, textbooks, stationery and other learning materials would also be provided so that no child was deprived of education due to financial hardship.
