KABUL (Pajhwok): The US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Tuesday announced a new wave of strikes on multiple targets in Iran, marking the third consecutive day of hostilities. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had retaliated with missile and drone attacks on US military bases in the region.

The United States has carried out strikes on targets in Iran over the past two days, while Iran has responded by targeting American bases across the region.

In a post on X, CENTCOM announced the launch of a fresh round of attacks against Iran. In a subsequent statement issued at 6:50am Afghanistan time, the command said the operation had been completed.

CENTCOM said US forces targeted military sites in Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas during the five-hour operation, aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping.

The statement said Iranian coastal defence systems, missile facilities, drone capabilities and naval assets were among the targets hit.

“More than 50,000 US troops are currently deployed across the Middle East. US forces remain vigilant and fully prepared,” CENTCOM said.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that the IRGC’s public relations office said US military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan had been targeted with Iranian missiles and drones.

The IRGC said the second phase of Operation Nasr 2 targeted several weapons storage facilities, a satellite communications centre and accommodation areas used by US forces in Bahrain.

“Retaliatory operations are continuing,” the statement said.

In a separate report, Tasnim said the IRGC had also carried out missile strikes against the US Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan and another US military base in Kuwait.
