Afghan, Uzbek officials discuss expanding cooperation in pharmaceutical sector

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan and Uzbek officials have discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, health products and food during a meeting in Uzbekistan.

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said in a statement on Sunday that Mawlavi Hamdullah Zahid, deputy minister for Food and Medicine, led an official delegation to Uzbekistan, where he met Abdullah Azizov, Uzbekistan’s deputy minister of health and head of the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency.

According to the statement, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, health products and food, as well as exchanging expertise, transferring technical knowledge, enhancing technical capacity and strengthening trade relations. They also emphasised the need to further boost bilateral cooperation.

Mawlavi Zahid underlined the importance of expanding bilateral ties, sharing expertise, transferring technical knowledge and strengthening technical capacity to improve the quality of medicines, health products and food.

The statement said Uzbek health officials briefed the Afghan delegation on their country’s pharmaceutical and health products industry, including its regulatory systems, capacities and achievements.

They also expressed readiness to expand technical cooperation, exchange expertise and implement joint programmes with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
