PARUN (Pajhwok): At least 20 people were killed, more than 80 injured and over 100 others remain missing after flash floods swept through Parun, the capital of eastern Nuristan province, on Monday, the National Disaster Preparedness Authority said.
In a statement, the authority said the casualty figures were preliminary, noting that rescue teams were continuing search and rescue operations in the affected area.
It said accurate information would be shared with the media after the damage assessment and survey process is completed, adding that the number of casualties could change.
The flash floods struck on Monday afternoon, causing heavy property damage in addition to the human casualties.
