KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s National Disaster Preparedness Authority (ANDPA) says that floods over the past 24 hours have killed nine people, injured one and caused widespread destruction across nine provinces, damaging hundreds of homes and thousands of jeribs of agricultural land.

In a preliminary report released on Friday, the authority said the floods affected the provinces of Kabul, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir, Paktia, Paktika, Logar, Maidan Wardak and Ghazni.

According to the report, nine people lost their lives and one person was injured.

The floods completely destroyed 131 homes and partially damaged another 332. In addition, 4,810 jeribs (approximately 962 hectares or 2,377 acres) of agricultural land were devastated.

The authority also said that emergency response teams rescued six people who had been stranded by floodwaters in Laghman Province.

Relief efforts are ongoing, with food and non-food assistance already distributed to flood-affected families in Kapisa, Ghazni, and Parwan.

Separately, the authority said that each family of flood victims in Nuristan Province has received AFN 20,000 in cash assistance, with the distribution process still underway.
