KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Defence (MoD) says security forces have discovered and seized 74 light and heavy weapons smuggled from Pakistan during operations in various areas of the eastern zone.
In a statement, the ministry said the weapons were seized by personnel from the intelligence and reconnaissance units of the 201st Khalid bin Walid Corps based on intelligence reports.
The seized weapons included machine guns, Kalashnikovs, M16 rifles, pistols, mortars, RPGs, Dragunov rifles, as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition and other military equipment, the statement added.
The ministry said the weapons had been transported from neighbouring Pakistan for the purpose of carrying out “subversive activities” and stressed that Afghan defence forces would not allow anyone to carry out destabilising activities in the country.
