GHAZNI CITY (PAN): A policeman shot dead his six colleagues at a checkpoint in the southern province of Ghazni, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident took place at 8:30 am when a policeman at Moshiki checkpoint in the Qaragh district opened fire on the other policemen, the Afghan National Army (ANA) commander in the province, Col. Daud Shah Wafadar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The rogue policeman had removed the pistons from the other policemen’s Kalashnikovs in advance of the attack, so that they wouldn’t be able to return fire, he said.
The attacker managed to flee after the incident, he said.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the policeman had links with the Taliban and that he escaped to the Taliban after fleeing the scene of the attack.
The provincial police chief, Col. Zarawar Zahid, initially said this morning that a suicide bomber hit a police checkpoint in the area.
