ISLAMABAD (PAN on Wednesday, an official said.
Dozens of armed men attacked a police checkpoint early in the morning in the Sarband area on the outskirts of Peshawar, Ijaz Khan, a senior police official, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Police suffered no casualties, but they killed five militants in a retaliatory attack, he said.
The fighters took the bodies of the dead as they fled the scene, but left behind some arms and ammunition, he said.
The attack began at the first light of dawn and continued until sunrise, said a resident of the area, Mokamal Shah.
Militants have hideouts in nearby areas and occasionally attack police checkpoints, he said.
