KHOST CITY (PAN): Dozens of cricket players have received training from the Afghan Youth Cricket Support Organisation (AYCSO) in the southeastern province of Khost, officials said on Saturday.
Up to 50 cricket players from various districts and the provincial capital, Khost City, participated in a programme at a training camp run by the Cricket Academy of Khost City, according to Raees Ahmadzai, former captain of the Afghan national cricket team and current head of AYCSO.
The training included cricket techniques and skills. The players also received shoes, uniforms, and other equipment, he said.
He said the game has a good future in the country because young people love to play cricket.
Ahmadzai said the AYCSO will train more than 1,000 players each year. The province’s players are improving, said the head of the Khost cricket department, Amanullah Zadran, and similar training programmes can attract good players.
A member of the programme, Khyal Mohammad, 51, said that those in the programme had learned the techniques of the game.
“Besides training, we got cricket equipment, shoes and uniforms, which we did not have before,” he said.
