4 policemen injured in Nangarhar blasts

JALALABAD (PAN‘s lawless tribal region of Khyber, officials said on Thursday.

The first explosion took place at 9:00am when a border police vehicle struck a roadside bomb on the Jalalabad-Torkham highway in the Barikaw area of Batikot district, a spokesman for the force said. Idris Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News two border policemen were wounded and their vehicle damaged.

A second blast occurred at 11:30am near Said Market in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, wounding two policemen, said the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai.

Mohammad Tahir, an official at the Sherzad district police headquarters, and his friend were wounded when the bomb went up near their room in the market.

The injured policemen were in a stable condition, Director of Public Health Dr. Baz Mohammad Sherzad said.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the militants had killed four border policemen and destroyed their vehicle as a result of the bomb attack in Batikot. However, he was unaware of the Jalalabad explosion.
