ASADABAD (PAN Minister Dr. Ghulam Farooq Wardak on Wednesday inaugurated a newly-constructed hostel at a teacher training institute in eastern Kunar province.
A ceremony for the hostel in Asadabad was attended by Governor Syed Fazalullah Wahidi, head of the Islamic education branch at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Shafiq Samim and other officials.
Wardak also laid the foundation stone of a high school in Asadabad and announced the construction of a religious school in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Township in neighbouring Nangarhar province.
“We are trying to get released 100 containers stranded at Pakistan’s Karachi port. The containers carrying books for the new educational year have been stopped there over the past few days,” Wardak told reporters.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Syed Fazalullah Wahidi said the hostel cost $ 0.5 million (24.6 million afs) provided by the Ministry of Counter-Narcotics. He called the province education-friendly, saying teachers and schools faced no threat from militants.
