KABUL on Wednesday said their spring offensive would begin across the country on Thursday.
A nnouncement of the annual offensive by the movement’s spokesman came hours after the signing of the long-awaited strategic cooperation deal between Afghanistan and the United States.
“The primary target of Al-Farooq operation will be foreign invaders, their advisors, their contractors and members of all military, intelligence and auxiliary departments,” it added.
Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement new war tactics would be employed to protect civilians. He added a committee would be tasked with inviting Afghan security personnel to join the insurgency.
Hours earlier, the insurgents launched a brazen attack on a foreigners’ housing compound in Kabul, killing seven people and wounding nearly a dozen others.
The group also warned of attacks on high-ranking officials, lawmakers and members of the High Peace Council. “It is hoped civilians will stay away from bases of invaders and their hirelings and military convoys.”
