KABUL): The Ministry of Interior on Wednesday claimed 25 militants were killed over the past one day in different parts of the country.
Eight more insurgents were also injured and 21 others detained in a total of 25 joint operations by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force troops.
Massive security raids were launched in Kunar, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Baghlan, Samangan, Takhar, Kunduz, Faryab, Sar-i-Pul, Balkh, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Khost, Paktia, Herat, Badghis and Helmand provinces, the ministry said in a statement.
Up to 110 kilogrammes of drugs, 25 different weapons, 220 kg of ammonium nitrate, three walki-talkies, a car and three motorcycles were also recovered during the operations, he added.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said besides killing three policemen in Dand district of Kandahar, they also killed two foreign soldiers and injured three others in southern Helmand province.
He also claimed they killed two border policemen in Nangarhar, apart from burning trucks and wounding three guards in Doshi district of Baghlan.
