KABUL): An inter-provincial cricket tournament — the Etisalat Challenge Cup — is scheduled to kick off next month in the eastern province of Nangarhar, the game’s regularity authority announced in Kabul on Wednesday.
Divided into four groups, teams from 20 of Afghanistan‘s 34 provinces are taking part in the 50 overs event, commencing from Feb. 3 under the aegis of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), an official told Pajhwok Afghan News.
ACB spokesman Farid Hotak said two matches would take place daily at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan stadium as part of the 16-day competition. The finalists would make it to the Etisalat Elite Cup as part of the ACB’s talent-hunt drive to strengthen the national side, he said. The Challenge Cup marks the launch of domestic cricket season.
