JALALABAD (PAN): Khost and Takhar teams notched up victories against their rivals in Etisalat Cricket Cup matches played in Nangarhar province on Monday.
In the 50 overs match, Khost elected to bat first, setting a 287-run target for Takhar, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak said.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News that Hamim, Mohammad Khan and Shahid starred with the willow, contributing 50, 47 and 28 runs respectively.
Chasing the total, Takhar were restricted to 140, with Aminullah and Zahid Ali putting a tad bit resistance. The remaining batsmen went out cheaply — thanks to aggressive bowling spells from Ihsan Mangal, Javed Zadran and Mohammad Khan, who took three wickets apiece.
In the second encounter, Baghlan rattled up a formidable total of 297. Khaliqdad Noori (94), Niaz Wali (48) and Juma Gul (46) were major contributors. Abdur Rahman, capturing five wickets, was the pick of Helmand bowlers.
A superb knock of 107 by Abdur Rahim, who was adjudged the man of the match, and 72 by Abdur Rahman powered Helmand to an emphatic win over the opposition in the 48th over, Hotak said.
Divided into four groups, 20 provincial clubs are taking part in the one-day contest. Groups leaders will find their way to the Etisalat Elite Cup.
