KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai on Friday congratulated the national cricket team on scoring an emphatic win over Kenya in the second one-day match of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League in Sharjah.
By virtue of the seven-wicket victory, the Afghans earned a well-deserved spot in the 2015 World Cup, moving ahead of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) into second place.
While greeting the home side on living up to its reputation, the president said it was excellent team work that took Afghanistan to the World Cup, where they would put up such a spirited performance.
In a telephone conversation in the afternoon, Karzai greeted Afghanistan Cricket Board head Bashir Stanikzai and the team on the victory, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
