KABUL and an infant, were killed when a car crashed into a public transport bus in northern Samangan province on Thursday, an official said.
The collision involving a Corolla car and a passenger bus took place at Rubatak pass on the Samangan-Pul-i-Khumri highway, the provincial police chief, Maj. Gen Mohammad Akram Bekzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said no one travelling in the car survived and the victims belonged to the same family. The bus driver tried to escape, but police chased and arrested him.
A doctor at the Samangan civil hospital, Mansoor, said the victims were residents of northern Baghlan province. An infant was also among the dead, he added.
Eyewitnesses said the car was damaged to the extent that its driver and other victims were taken out with the help of a crane machine.
Carelessness by drivers often leads to such tragic accidents on the route. About three months ago, a 303 bus overturned on the same highway, killing seven people and injuring 23 others.
