PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Residents in four districts of central Logar province have not been able so far to obtain voter cards because they lack access to registration centres.
Nimatullah Wardak, the provincial Independent Election Commission (IEC, had been issued with voter cards in Logar.
He said eight registration centres had been operational in the province, but people could not access these centres in Barak-i-Barak, Sarkh, Kharwar and Azra towns due to security concerns.
He said mobile voter registration facilities were in place in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, Mohammad Agha and Khoshi districts.
Wardak said insecurity restricted election officials to meet people in various parts of the province as part of awareness programme, saying many locals had little knowledge about the importance and benefits of elections.
A Sarkh district resident, Abdul Habib, said most residents had no information about the distribution of voter cards and the availability of registration centres.
A Barak-i-Barak dweller Rahimullah said awareness programmes should have been conducted ahead of cards’ distribution.
