KABUL Twenty20 Qualifiers by defeating Denmark by two wickets in the UAE, an official said on Thursday.
Afghanistan, which previously outclassed Scotland, PNG and Bermuda, elected to field against Denmark after winning the toss, said Afghanistan Cricket Board’s spokesman, Farid Hotak.
The Danish team set Afghanistan a target of 146 runs for the loss of three wickets in the 20 overs game, said Hotak, adding the three wickets were shared by Samiullah Shinwari, Mohammad Nabi Issakhel and Karim Sadiq.
Afghanistan chased the target in the 16th over for the loss of eight wickets, thanks to Najib Zadran’s heroic 61 runs, which included five sixes. He was followed by Issakhel with 25 runs and Samiullah Shinwari with 21.
It was Afghanistan’s fourth victory in a row in group B matches. Afghanistan are placed together with the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Kenya, Scotland and Bermuda in Group B.
Ireland, Canada, the UAE, Namibia, Hong Kong, Uganda, the USA and Italy make up Group A. The top six teams of the qualifiers will secure berth in the finals to be held in March next year in Bangladesh.
