KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Three suicide bombers were shot dead after they tried to storm the National Directorate of Security (NDS) Department in southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, an official said.
The bombers tried to attack the NDS’s Interrogation Branch before they were killed after a protracted gun-battle with police and intelligence officials, Kandahar police spokesman Zia Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the incident started around 10am at the Shahidano Square in Kandahar city. All the three bombers had been gunned down by security forces, he added.
The governor’s house press office said the bombers wanted to force their way into the NDS residential compound but they were identified and shot dead after a fierce gun-battle.
Samiullah, an eyewitness, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attackers descended from a rickshaw and then entered a gun-battle with police guarding the NDS compound.
