LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Two children and five people have been killed during a blast and a clash in southern Helmand province, an official said on Friday.
The children were killed by the roadside bomb they were planting in Greshk district at the prodding of a fighter, the provincial police spokesman said.
Col. Abdul Ahad Chopan told Pajhwok Afghan News the militant, who misled the children into planting the landmine, was also killed in the explosion.
Elsewhere in the province, militants stormed a police checkpoint in the Changok area of Nawzad district. Four Taliban were killed and two policemen wounded in the ensuing clash, Chopan said.
Without commenting on the two incidents, the Taliban claimed killing nine policemen in Helmand. But the authorities spurned the claim as baseless.
