Projects on to boost Bamyan crop yield

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Hundreds of hectares of land in central Bamyan province will come under cultivation with the completion of dozens of ongoing development projects, an official said on Wednesday.

Hussain Bakhshah Hamdard, the director of irrigation, told Pajhwok Afghan News the newly-launched projects included small dams, streams, retaining walls, etc.

The projects, he added, were being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Agha Khan Development Network.

The projects would cost $700,000 which would be implemented in the provincial capital and Shibar district, he said, adding that the small dam funded by the JICA and FAO had already been completed today at Tajkan village. The project completed at the cost of $65,000, he said would benefit over one thousands dwellers of the locality.

The dam would generate enough electricity to be supplied with two villages, he concluded.
