KUNDUZ CITY/FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and five militants, including a notorious commander, were killed in separate incidents northern Kunduz and northeastern Badakhshan provinces, officials said on Thursday.
Four ANA soldiers were killed and three police injured during a clash with Taliban in the Gurm district of Badakhshan, Police Chief Maj. Gen. Fazal Din Ayar told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The district administrative chief, Noor Aqa Naderi, said two ANA vehicles were destroyed in the gun battle that lasted for hours. A woman in the locality got killed in a rocket attack allegedly fired by insurgents.
Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed killing 17 ANA soldiers and destroying three tanks and two vehicles during the clash. Weapons and ammunitions were also seized from enemy soldiers, Mujahid added.
In Kunduz, four insurgents, including a notorious commander, were killed in Afghan Air Force bombing in the Dasht-i-Archi district, Maj. Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, a spokesman for the 209 Military Corps, said.
He said Qari Wali Mohammad, the slain Taliban commander, was operating Taliban-designated security chief in the area for few years.
Abdul Jalil, a resident of the locality, said Afghan Air Force jets pounded the area, leaving several insurgents dead. Several families left the area for safer places to dodge casualties.
