KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Construction work on a building for the vaccination centre exclusively established for southern provinces in the capital of southern Kandahar province was launched on Monday.
Kandahar Public Health Director Dr. Abdul Qayum Pukhla told Pajhwok Afghan News the three-storey building was estimated to cost 32 million afghanis and was being built with financial support from the UNICEF.
He said a local construction company had been awarded the contract to construct the building in six months near the Medical Science Institute in the second municipal district. The structure would have a large warehouse, a cold storage for keeping vaccines, a training hall and other allied facilities, Pukhla said.
He hoped the building would help streamline and expedite vaccination activities in the southern zone, saying that not only polio vaccination but other vaccines for other diseases would also be available at the centre. He said the vaccination facility at the Mirwais hospital would also be shifted to the new centre.
Governor Tooryalai Weesa said he was happy with the launch of construction work on an exclusive building for the vaccination centre, saying the project would help streamline vaccination efforts and ultimately reduce diseases among children. He thanked the UNICEF for financially supporting the project in Kandahar.
