ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Ten insurgents have been killed and five others wounded after they mounted group attacks on security posts in Narai and Ghaziabad districts of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Friday.
Maj. Shirin Agha Yousafzai, a spokesman for the 201 Selab Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attacks were staged late Thursday night when 300 well-armed insurgents stormed several security posts in the two districts.
The militants faced stout resistance from the security forces and 10 of them were killed and five others wounded. One local police officer was also killed and another two, including an army soldier, wounded in the showdown.
But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied losing fighters in the clashes. He claimed a number of check-posts had been seized by militants, with the Afghan security forces suffering heavy casualties.
