MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): In his message on Afghanistan’s 95th Independence Day, the governor of the northern Balkh province on Tuesday demanded election results be completed soon and in an indisputable way.
A gathering marking the country’s 95th Independence Day was held in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, attended by senior officials, provincial council members, tribal elders and others.
Dr. Muhammad Afzal, head of the provincial council, read out the message of Governor Atta Muhammad Noor. The governor said: “The poll results should be announced and Afghanistan should have a competent new president.”
Brig. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi, the police chief, termed the occasion an “auspicious day for Afghans.” He said Afghans should leave their internal rifts behind and work for greater unity to preserve their freedom.
At the end of the gathering, a road crossing was named after Ghazi Amanullah Khan and the ceremony was attended by the provincial council head and the police chief.
