PUL-I-ALAM/LASHKARGAH/JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 17 Taliban were killed and as many wounded in separate clashes in different parts of the country, officials said on Saturday.
Five insurgents were killed and three others injured in an attack on police check posts in the Baraki Brak district of central Logar province, police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said dozens of militants, including foreigners, mounted coordinated attacks at around 8:00 am on the Ahmadak, Chaltan and Jalizo check-posts.
Elsewhere, 12 rebels have been killed and as many wounded during clashes with security forces in southern Helmand province, a statement from the 215 Maiwand Military Corps said.
Civilians and security personnel remained unhurt in the fire fight, the statement added.
Taliban Spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi confirmed killing of some militants in the fighting. He claimed heavy casualties inflicted on security forces in the Musa Kala, Grishk and Sangin districts.
Separately, police have seized 22,000 bullets and detained two persons smuggling the weapons in the Ghani Khel district of eastern Nangarhar province, Police Spokesman Maj. Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal said.
