ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Six militants and three security personnel were killed during an overnight clash in the Chapa Dara district of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Friday.
Kunar police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News another four insurgents and as many security men were injured during the firefight in the Gul Sarak area on Thursday night.
The clash broke out after a group of armed insurgents stormed a security post in the area, the police chief said.
But a Taliban’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in an email message claimed that the fighters had captured two security posts in the district, killing and wounding 14 security personnel.
Two police pick up vehicles and some weapons were also captured by the rebels, Mujahid said.
But the police chief rejected his claim, saying security forces were in control of the posts and no weapons had fallen into the hands of attackers.
