ASADBAD (Pajhwok): A huge fire raced through a woodworking market in the capital of eastern Kunar province on Monday, leaving dozens of shops a complete loss.
The fire broke out in the afternoon in Dam village on the outskirts of Asadabad shortly after 3pm. The cause remained unknown, but the affected shopkeepers said they suffered millions of afghanis in losses.
One of them, Gul Mohammad, said the market produced furniture and dozens of woodworking shops, including his, were destroyed in the blaze.
The police headquarters said the blaze was contained after hectic efforts lasting one and a half hours.
