KABUL (Pajhwok): Nine militants and a soldier have been killed in separate security incidents in Nimroz and Jawzjan provinces, officials said on Wednesday.
Local officials said a clearing operation was launched in the Aqcha district of Jawzjan before noon when militants from different parts had assembled there.
Rahmatullah Hashar, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News police, army and intelligence personnel were conducting the operation. Four militants have been killed and three others wounded so far.
Resident Mohammad Shafi confirmed intense fighting was underway in the area. “Those living near the site are leaving their homes.”
In Nimroz, five insurgents were killed during clashes in Khashrod district. Mohammad Hashim Nawrozi, the district chief, said the armed rebels were killed during an overnight operation in Do Baradarak area.
A machine gun and two Kalashnikov rifles were seized by the security personnel as a result of the firefight, he said, adding one soldier was killed and two others were wounded.
