GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Taliban burned down completely in Andar district of southern Ghazni province, the district police chief said.
Eng. Maj. Lutfullah Kamran claimed militants torched the mosque in Salehano locality of the district late Thursday night.
“Taliban prompted to set fire to the mosque as the government has recently bought loudspeaker, carpets and other necessities of life for the mosque,” he remarked.
The militants, he said had warned that they would not allow people to utilize facilities provided by the government.
Pajhwok Afghan News has received the video of the torched mosque in which a white-bearded man said that it could not be confirmed who were behind that sacrilegious act.
But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed people of the locality were involved in setting the mosque on fire. He said two tribes had a claim over the mosque’s property, which ended in the torching of the holy place.
He said that Taliban would award severe punishment to those who burned down the mosque.
