JALALABAD (PAN, including a commander, were killed in an air strike by foreign troops in the eastern province of Nangarhar, officials said on Wednesday.
International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops launched the predawn operation at 2:30am and completed it at 4:30am in the Salozai area of Chaparhar town, the district chief, Mualim Mashooq, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Rebel commander, Mohammad Afzal, was among the seven insurgents killed. An eighth fighter was arrested as a result of the operation, he said. The commander’s body was handed over to residents.
The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, confirmed the military action, but gave no more details.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said two fighters and six civilians were killed during the clash in Chaparhar. He claimed three US soldiers were killed in the firefight.
