401kg of drugs seized in Baghlan, Samangan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Police seized 312 kilograms of hashish in northern Baghlan and 89 kg of opium in northern Samangan province, arresting four persons, officials said on Monday.

Baghlan counternarcotics chief Col. Nizamuddin Nizam told Pajhwok Afghan News 312 kg of hashish was confiscated from a truck carrying melons in Khanjan district on Monday.

The hashish in special plastic bags had been brought from Takhar province and two men, residents of Nangarhar province, were arrested in connection with the seizure, he said.

A day earlier, police in northeastern Kunduz province seized 140 kilograms of narcotics and detained two people.

Security officials say most of drugs are trafficked from Takhar, Badakhshan and Kunduz provinces to capital Kabul.

According to another report, 83 kilograms of opium and six kilograms of hashish were seized from a 303 public transport bus in Aibak, the capital of Samgan province, on Monday.

Provincial counternarcotics chief Col. Abdul Razaq Shirzada said that the bus driver and his assistant had been arrested in connection with the drugs.

He said 272 kilograms of heroin, 111 kilograms of opium and 100 kilograms of hashish had been seized and 17 people arrested this year on the Kabul-Mazar-I-Sharif highway in Samangan province.
