MAIDAN SHAHAR/ PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Seven militants have been killed in US drone strikes in central Maidan Wardak province while two leading Taliban commanders killed in face-off with police in Logar province, officials said on Tuesday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the spokesman for Maidan Wardak governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a drone strike killed five rebels including a dreaded commander on Monday night in Emardad district.
Two Taliban fighters, including a commander were killed in another drone attack in Chak district, he said, adding that civilians remained unhurt in the attacks.
Meanwhile, Baraki Barak district chief Mohammad Rahim Amin said police attacked a vehicle carrying a Taliban commander Mullah Wazir and his three body guards. The commander and one of his body guards were killed on the spot while two other fighters sustained injuries in the attack.
The district chief said the commander was widely known for committing atrocities against locals but security situation would now improve after his killing.
Taliban have not commented on the incidents so far.
