KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The information and culture director of southern Kandahar province was wounded in an armed attack by unidentified gunmen Monday morning.
The governor’s spokesman, Samim Khpalwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News Director Hazrat Wali Hotak was attacked by two armed motorcyclists in the 2nd police district at around 8am.
He said Hotak suffered bullet injuries and was evacuated to hospital. The attackers managed to escape, but a search has been mounted in the area.
A doctor at the Mirwais Civil Hospital in Kandahar City told Pajhwok the information director was under treatment for a shoulder injury. The official is said to be in stable condition.
Hazrat Wali Hotak, who previously served as a teacher at the Kandahar University, was recently appointed as information director. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Some years back, then information director Abdul Majeed Babe had been killed in a similar ambush by the Taliban insurgents.
