TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The newly-appointed governor on Sunday said improving security situation in central Uruzgan province would be his top priority.

Haji Nazir Kharotai, who replaces Amanullah Taimori, was appointed by President Ashraf Ghani as the governor of Uruzgan few days ago.

Kharotai was introduced by the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) during a special ceremony attended by local officials, the former governor, tribal elders and influential individuals here on Sunday.

IDLG deputy financial director Abdul Malik Sediqi said the president had appointed Kharotai based on IDLG recommendation.

Sediqi asked the new governor to serve all the people in Uruzgan equally and improve the law and order as his first priority. He called on the people to support the new governor and share their experiences with him.

Former governor Amanullah Taimori welcomed the new governor and pledged to support him in his works.

Kharotai thanked the president and said he would properly carry out his responsibilities.

He said improving security situation in Uruzgan would be among his top priorities and would take special measures for reforms in the local administration.
