SHARANA (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen shot dead a local police commander and a Pakistani doctor during separate incidents in southeastern Paktika province, officials and residents said on Monday.

Paktika police chief Brig. Gen. Zarawar Zahid told Pajhwok Afghan News the Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander named Abdul was gunned down on Monday morning in the provincial capital, Sharana.

He said an investigation had been opened into the killing, but no arrests could be made so far. The assailants also took away the slain commander’s vehicle.

A resident of Sharana, Noor Khan, also confirmed the murder of Abdul who controlled three ALP posts. “Commander Abdul was very active person.”

The Pakistani doctor known as Punjabi doctor was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Sarobi district on Sunday, a resident of the district, Zabihullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

“A letter found near his body says the doctor was an agent of the Pakistani spy service that is why he was killed by the Pakistani Taliban.”

Pakitka public health director Dr. Wali Gul confirmed the murder of the Pakistani doctor. He said the slain doctor had been operating in Sarobi district for the last four years and before that he had been in Waza Khwa district.

No group has claimed responsibility for both the incidents.
