KABUL insurgents after overnight clashes that left 32 militants dead, a military official claimed on Friday.
Capt. Abdul Ali Kaliwal, the 406 zone border police 5th brigade commander, said security forces launched an operation on Thursday night and killed 32 militants and regained control of the district centre early on Friday. The morning clashes left another 10 insurgents dead, he added.
The Taliban overran Khanshin district centre on Wednesday after fierce clashes with security forces, a public representative had said.
Karim Atal, the provincial council chief, had told Pajhwok Aghan News the district centre fell to insurgents at about 3pm after security forces were forced into retreat. The security forces moved to an army base three kilometers from the district centre, he had said.
He said Taliban during their siege had destroyed state buildings, adding that search operation was still underway in parts of the district.
Meanwhile Taliban militants launched attacks on Washir district centre, targeting security check-posts, the district police chief said on Friday.
1st Lt. Sher Yar said the Taliban launched their attacks on Thursday but faced with stiff resistance from security forces.
There has been no word from the Taliban about the incidents, but the group had claimed attacking some security forces check-posts in Greshk district and inflicting causalities on security personnel.
