Technicians fear Taliban to repair Kabul power supply line

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan in the area of the sabotage incident in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Wednesday.

The power supply from Uzbekistan to Kabul was snapped on Tuesday night after Taliban blew up a power pylon in Dand-i-Shahabuddin area in Baghlan on the highway connecting Pul-i-Khumri with Kunduz province.

Baghlan governor Abdul Satar Bariz told Pajhwok Afghan News some DABS technical employees from Kabul came to Pul-i-Khumri to reconnect the line, but they could not travel to the area where the sabotage act took place because the area was controlled by Taliban.

Security personnel were trying to clear the area from the presence of Taliban to enable the technicians to reach the area, he said.

In Kabul, DABS officials confirmed the overnight attack in Baghlan had cut off 250 megawatts of electricity supply to Kabul, plunging many areas into dark. Last night, important facilities in Kabul, including hospitals, were supplied thermal electricity.

However, a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied they were behind the sabotage and said destruction of power pylons was not included in their war tactics.
