JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A district police chief in eastern Nuristan province was killed in a Taliban attack in Laghman province on Tuesday, officials said.

Nuristan’s deputy police chief, Col. Mohammad Farooq, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Cap. Inayatullah Himmat came under attack on his way to Kabul.

The Taliban attackedthe police officer in the Badiabad area of Alingar district at around 7:30 am. Col. Farooq said both sides exchanged firefor some time.

Sarhadi Zwak, the Laghman governor’s spokesman, confirmed the shooting and said the district police chief was travelling in a private car when he came under assault.

At least one of the attackers was also killed and a bodyguard of the police chief injured in the clash, he said. The Taliban have not yet commented on the shootout.
