KABUL.

According to the lower house’s code of conduct, general sessions are held on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays and meetings of commissions are conducted on Sundays and Tuesdays.

“Issues like the security situation, poverty, joblessness and youth migration were on the agenda at today’s session,” a lawmaker from northern Sar-i-Pul, Sharifa Balkhabi, said.

She lamented only 21 lawmakers attended the session. “Some parliament members don’t pay attention to their constitutional obligations,” she said.

Another lawmaker, Bashir Ahmad Teh Yanj, said it was not for the first time that the session was adjourned due to incomplete quorum, but several legislative issues were yet to be discussed due to such problems.

He asked MPs to know their responsibilities because such issues created problems for other government organs.

Today’s session could not be conducted to the absence of the required number of lawmakers to ensure continuity of the house proceedings, Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi ruled.
