GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok):A senior officer was among three other policemen killed during a Taliban ambush in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Thursday.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen.Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban attacked the police officer in the Qalati area of Ghazni City, the provincial capital.
Second Lieutenant Akhtar Mohammad,head of the 6th police unit, was killed along with two subordinates in the overnight attack, Gen. Amarkhel said.
“In the ensuing clash, some insurgents may have suffered casualties,” believed the provincial police chief, without giving any figures.
A resident of Qalati area, Kalimullah, said three policemen were wounded in the overnight firefight.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid named the slain police officer as Akhtar Mohammad. But he said nothing about Taliban casualties.
