KABUL (MoE) official on Thursday said quality of education at state-run schools needed to be improved.
Sayed Asad Mohaqiqi, curriculum development and teachers’ training centers in-charge at MoE, told this to a ceremony marking the graduation of 12th grade students at a private school in Kabul.
While addressing the graduates of the Hope High School, Mohaqiq termed quality education a core principle of the country’s education system and it should be paid serious attention.
He called cooperation among students, teachers, parents and school’s administration as vital in building personality of students. He said 12th grade graduates needed to be encouraged to continue to higher education.
However, Ghulam Dastagir Sultanzada, a member of the local 10th educational council, complained about small salaries of teachers and lack of laboratories, libraries, computer-labs and play grounds at government schools, while citing non-spending of MoE’s development budget as a main reason behind the issues.
He dubbed as education quality at private schools as better than government ones. “Private schools have set up laboratories, libraries and computer-labs; but state-run schools are deprived of these facilities due to negligence by the MoE and not spending the development budget, which has resulted in low quality education at government schools.”
“We have always shared our issues with MoE; but unfortunately MoE officials have so far taken no step towards resolving the problems with regard to schools, teachers and students.”
