2 Afghans involved in theft detained in Islamabad

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Two Afghan citizens, who allegedly stole foreign currency and jewellery worth Rs4.2 million, have been detained in Islamabad, the capital of Islamabad.

Anas and Basharmal were detained by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Investigation Superintendent of Police Muhammad Ilyas told reporters late on Monday.

On December 14, the two men chased a resident of Sector F-6/1 from Super Market to his house in Street 44. After the man parked his car and went into his home, the suspects broke the rear window of the vehicle.

The suspects took away a briefcase containing Omani riyals worth Rs2.3 million, gold jewellery worth Rs1.9 million, an ID cardand a cheque book, the police officer said.

Kohsar police referred the case to SIU, which detained the suspects. The stolen items were recovered from the suspects. SIU would be awarded cash prizes and commendation certificates, Ilyas said.
